Restricted/Previously Established Awards
The following scholarships are designated as restricted/previously established awards given to students who meet specific criteria as determined by the donor.


Augdahl Memorial $500

This scholarship was established to honor Jerry and Steve Augdahl, two brothers who died in a plane crash while on a hunting trip in Alaska. Their father was a former principal in Kensington.


Carlin Berg Memorial $100

Berg was a vocal instructor at Elbow Lake-Wendell High School for many years. His former students formed this scholarship in his honor. Scholarship awarded to a student who's active in choir.

 

Gregg Goldenstein Memorial $500

Goldenstein was a vocal instructor at WCA. His family established this scholarship in his honor. Scholarship awarded to a student who's active in music.

 

Nick Mahoney Scholarship $500

The Mahoney family established this scholarship in memory of Nick, a former WCA student.

 

REA Round-Up $600

This scholarship, funded by Operation Round-Up, is awarded to an REA member.

 

Gordon Peterson Memorial $100

Band Boosters established this scholarship in Peterson's honor with funds that were available following consolidation. Scholarship awarded to a student who's active in band.

 

Florence Olson Memorial $100

Olson was a Home-Economics Teacher in Barrett.

 

Laurie Sanford Scholarship $500

Sanford was a vocal instructor at WCA. The Lacey family established this scholarship in her honor. Scholarship awarded to a student who has a love of music.

 

Starner Fund $900

Scholarship established in honor of Viola and Hazel Starner, who were elementary teachers. Recipient must be pursing an education degree, preferably elementary education.

 

Dottie Thompson Memorial

Thompson's husband established this scholarship to honor her career as a French teacher at WCA. Scholarship awarded to someone who's pursuing a foreign language degree or taking advanced foreign language classes in high school.

 

Lakes Area Professional Women $500

This scholarship is awarded to a female graduate.

 

Evelyn Weigand Memorial $200

Evelyn passed away in 2012, having lived 100 years as a life-long resident of the area. Evelyn graduated valedictorian from Elbow Lake High School in 1930. She received her teaching degree in Fergus Falls and spent her career at two rural schools.
 

WCA Education Scholarship

The West Central Area (WCA) Education Association established this scholarship to support students as they pursue further education.  Preference given to education majors.


Class of 1967 $200

$200 was given by the class in 2011 in support of education.
